Built in the 11th century by the Counts of Champagne<\/strong>, it was extensively altered in the 13th and 14th centuries, including the reconstruction of the choir.<\/p>\n

The last major works date from 1867, when the provinois architect Georges Presle<\/strong> rebuilt the top floor of the Roman tower, the new belfry and the large slate-covered spire.<\/p>\n

From the outside, you can admire the architectural prowess of the church’s chevet: the lower part is polygonal, while the upper part is circular.<\/p>\n

As you enter the church, you will discover a choir of perfect regularity and harmony, lit by nine large windows. As you move forward, you will pass under a first quadripartite vault, then a second sexpartite vault and finally an apse vault with eight compartments<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You will then notice other details such as the cleverly slanted walls below the high windows to optimise the lighting.<\/p>\n

It is highly likely that a master builder<\/strong> using such complex procedures worked on cathedrals<\/strong>. This is why the church of Beauchery has this unique character in the Provinois and is a must-see…<\/p>\n
